Dr Manfred Vogt

Dr Manfred VogtManfred Vogt had his paediatric training at the University Hospital of Marburg/L. Already at a very early stage he discovered his interest in paediatric cardiology. He was trained as a paediatric cardiologist in Aachen, Marburg - Gießen and Ulm.

In 1994 he moved to Munich to work at the German Heart Centre Munich with Prof. Dr. Konrad Bühlmeyer and from 1997 with John Hess, the new director of the Clinic for Paediatric and Congenital Heart Disease. Since 2000 he is the head of the echo lab. Among other things he established a fully digital echo lab with 8 workstations including the intensive care unit and the operating theatre.

In 1997 he introduced a congenital transesophageal echocardiography programme with now more than 7000 examinations in all age groups including adults. His specific research topics include viral infections after heart surgery in childhood, outcome of surgery in grown-ups with congenital heart disease and new echocardiographic techniques. Manfred Vogt has contributed to more than 60 peer reviewed papers.

He is very enthusiastic about education in the field of echocardiography. More than ten years ago he initiated a modular teaching system with basic, superior and advanced courses in congenital echocardiography in Munich and organized so far more than 30 courses in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography.
